How to change bit pixel depth for a game?

so, most of you guys know that games are run in full screen. i have a program that will run Red Alert 2 (a computer game) in desktop window mode. However, i get the error, '; this product requires a 16bit pixel depth.';

So... my question is how to i CHANGE the bit pixel depth or whatever it's called, so that i can run the program in desktop mode instead of full screen.How to change bit pixel depth for a game?
Since your trying to run an older game RA2 in window mode it will want you to make your desktop ';colors'; to 16-bit.

Try,

Right click desktop -%26gt; Properties -%26gt; Settings 'Tab' -%26gt; From the color quality drop-down menu select, ';16-bit';

I just installed RA2 and this let me run it in window mode.
